Students will learn the basics of qualitative inquiry and apply these skills to questions of civic development and empowerment in late adolescence/emerging adulthood. This course will introduce undergraduates to the field of sociopolitical development, which explores how adolescents build the motivation and skills to engage in political and social systems with the goal of fighting inequality and resisting oppression. Student researchers will work together to co-construct knowledge through independent and group data coding assignments, group discussions of data, literature reviews, and other written assignments. By the end of the course, students will have the skills to conduct analyses for qualitative analysis projects.
